Robert Walter Burke

Robert Walter “Bob” Burke, 76, of Wilmington passed away Thursday March 31, 2011.

Bob was a proud veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War as an MP. He retired from a successful sales career in New York and moved to Wilmington in 1993, working as a school bus driver for 16 years, known by his students as “Mr. Bob”.

Bob was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church. He supported his community, disaster relief funds and served as a Guardian ad Litem for several years. He was a good friend, helping others and expecting nothing in return. Bob loved the ocean, outdoor activities, and as a member of a skin divers club in NY, Jacques Cousteau once presented him with a divers watch.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Linda Jane Kastner Burke, three children, Judy, Michele, and Bobby; two step-sons, Lou and Dan Agresta; and grandchildren, Staci, Tyler, Kaylie and Malcolm.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11 am Thursday, April 7, 2011 at St. Mark Catholic Church. His urn will be placed at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC.

In lieu of flowers remember Bob with a memorial gift to the Salvation Army, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, or charity of choice.

Usually I'm not at a loss for words but today I am. When Bob retired a bunch of us missed seeing him everyday. But then he would pop and say hi to us, that made our day. My deepest condolences go out to his family. He was a good man, he will be missed.
