M. Shannon Weeks

Michael Shannon Weeks, age 44, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.

He was born October 27, 1964 in Wilmington, N. C. son of Jane Cavenaugh Weeks and Luther Morris Weeks. He was preceded in death by grandparents Morris Weeks, Helen and Dewey Cavenaugh and is survived by grandmother Catherine Weeks.

In addition, he is survived by a brother, Ted Weeks and niece Brooke Weeks. Other survivors include an uncle, Eddy Cavenaugh (Kim) and their children Brandon, Kayla, and Joshua Cavenaugh.of Winston-Salem, NC, aunts, Libby Johnson and family of Cleveland, Tenn., Susie Wells and family of Burgaw, Kay Weeks, and Jo Etta Weeks of Wilmington and a goddaughter, Ala Tristen Hughes of Texas. Also, his family wishes to acknowledge his friends Donna Reynolds, Debbie Welch, Lynn Pearson, Anthony Ezzell, Clifton Lively, Chase Johnson and Robbie Kearney who were constantly in his life and a blessed source of support.

He will be greatly missed by his most beloved companions, his pets: Pearl, Linus, Cletis, and Cleo, who will all be going to good homes.

Shannon savored life as a free spirit who sought varied interests and was daring enough to truly live those experiences. Throughout his life, he touched many people on both a spiritual and professional level and his self-awareness could only be matched by his “tell it like it is” personality. To know him allowed others to learn even more about themselves.

His passions led him to be owner of two separate businesses through the years and to hold positions at Shell Island Resort, Hilton Hotel, Wilmington Dare, Comfortable Soles/Birkenstock Shoe Stores and the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. Shannon’s expertise finally brought him back home to the hospitality industry and the Coastline Convention Center as the Director of Sales. He again worked with Jackie Hodge and Charles Carver, who was his boss, friend, co-conspirator, and, most importantly, his mentor. Shannon chose well because Charles ultimately became the rock of support for Shannon and his family during his final days.

To all of the persons who expressed concern and provided support during Shannon’s brief illness, his family will be eternally grateful. To the professionals at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, most importantly, his nurses Kelly and Karen, we thank you for you dedication to him. And, to his angel in white, Dr Jadene Lowry, your compassionate treatment is what helped lead him peacefully home.

Per his wishes, you may make donations to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice 1414 Physicians Drive Wilmington, NC 28401, or Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue (SOAR).
In lieu of a funeral, the family asked that friends join them in a

Celebration of his Life to be held on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 4:00pm at the Coastline Convention Center.
