Kenneth Wayne Long

Kenneth Wayne Long of Leland, NC, died July 15, 2011, at his residence.

He was born on February 1, 1954, in Whiteville, NC, the son of Rosie (Smith) Long of Calabash, NC, and the late Vonnie Cooledge Long and was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Long and two sons, Gregory Long and Kenny Long.

A retired building contractor, he had a passion for the outdoors and had built many homes in the Wilmington and surrounding area’s. Kenneth enjoyed fishing and most of all spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving besides his mother are: two daughters, Courtney Long and Matthew Pardue of Fayetteville, NC and Janie Long of Gloucester, VA, a brother, Clint Long and wife Wanda of Leland, NC, four sisters, Erma Bordeaux of Leland, NC, Marsha Caison and husband Raldon of Calabash, NC, Joyce Long and husband Larry of Little River, NC and Sandra Schroeder and husband Ed of St. Petersburg, FL, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends starting at 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 112 Shamrock Drive, Leland, NC. A Celebration of Life will be held 6:00 pm Monday, July 18, 2011, at Village Road Funeral and Cremation Services, Leland, NC.

    You went through more then one person should and it makes me feel "better" that you are at peace now..no more missing kenny and greg..no more trying to cure the pain. You ARE the strongest man i know! You were the best dad to me and Courtney you could be! You were always there for us! You were always the voice of reason when something was wrong.. or when their was something me and sis were scared to tell you.. you always listened and never once judged us. I think about you everyday and how i want to just pick up the phone and call you! i miss you so much it hurts... Knowing Kooper will never know how amazing you were and how much you loved him breaks my heart! but we will make sure he knows how great of a papa you were. Im thankful kendall got to be with you, your last days and she loved you so much! Ill think of you always. I Love you with my whole heart! janie
