Jetchel C. “Jay” Parker, 71, of Wilmington passed away Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center.
He was born in Massey Hill in Fayetteville, NC on December 22, 1939 to the late Marvin Watus Parker and Annie Hazel Wright Parker. Remembered is his granddaughter, Samantha Marie Knight, who preceded him in death.
Jay was a veteran of the US Air Force being discharged in 1963 and served as a police officer for the Fayetteville City Police Dept for 13 years. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and was the former owner and operator of J&R Rebar.
Jay is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia S. Parker; children, Vonda Craig and husband George, Jay Parker, Jr. and wife Kathy, Deborah Shride and husband John, Constance Kearney and husband Robert, and Summer Parker; 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; one brother, Watus Hudson Parker.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 1 to 2 PM Tuesday June 28, 2011, at Fellowship Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 2 pm officiated by Rev. Arnold Griffin. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Robert Kearney, John Shride, George Craig, Jared Glick, Dan Eden, and Joseph Kearney.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
