Genevieve Dorothy “Toots” Shipp died at home Sunday, November 6, 2011. Genevieve was born in Worcester, MA, August 8, 1918, the fourth of six children born to Carl and Amy Hjelm.
She is survived by a daughter Ann Aaronian of Cambridge, MA, sons Col. George Shipp and his wife Ellie, retired, of Gladys, VA, Russell Shipp and his wife Miriam with whom she last lived of Wilmington, NC, and her three sisters Jinny Devoll, Evelyn Jordan, and Doris Abbott, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her husband Frederick and two older brothers Everett and Chet preceded her in death. As with most pure givers, she rarely complained, had a smile easily coaxed, and never lost her sense of humor. She loved birds and had a special place in her heart for two yellow labs, Rosina and Figaro Shipp.
