Denise Phillips:
On Tuesday, December 14, 2010, the Angels came and quietly raised her during a peaceful sleep. We thank God for allowing us to be even a small entity placed within our sister’s dash: 1960-2010.
Memorial service will be 4:00 PM, Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Wilmington Burial and Cremation Service.
Denise was born December3, 1960, in New York City, New York, during the Civil Rights movement. A political awakening and empowerment marked the period for Blacks. Being a child of this period, Denise lived a unique life characterized by turbulence and creativity. She lived life boldly, freely and with creativity.
She was born to Clara Phillips and James Allen (deceased) who hailed from New York City, NY and Raleigh, NC, respectively.
She is survived by four siblings (Beverly, Barbara, Daisy and Frank); nine nieces and nephews, (LaShon, Latricha, Michael, Katrina, Tia, Justin, (deceased), Dina Sheena, Quamaine and Shirron); nine great-nieces and nephews, (Essence, Tyree, Stephen, Shariah, Leslie, Khamar, Ian, Imani and Taji); four first cousins (Ernest, Frank, Harold (deceased) and Cynthia); eight second cousins (April, Aaliyah, Tiesha, Mahdi, Nakeema, Dawn, Charisse, and Robert)
Denis’s characteristic zest for life touched all she encountered. She seized life fully as it came. Denise leaves a lasting legacy of strength, perseverance and exuberance and will forever live on in our memory.
